Dear Members:
It is an honor and privilege to begin my service as the National President of the National Postal Mail Handlers Union. Under John Hegarty’s leadership, our Union has accomplished great things during the past thirteen years, and my pledge to each and every mail handler in America is to continue the progress in the months and years ahead.
To be sure, we currently are facing many uncertainties, including the continued threat of closures and consolidations and the subcontracting or outsourcing of our work. But the NPMHU will continue to oppose these management actions and press for the preservation and revitalization of the Postal Service. Looking towards the future, it is now also the time to begin preparations for our next round of National bargaining. Rest assured that the NPMHU is well equipped and prepared to fight, represent, and engage on all fronts. I am confident that, through the hard work of our bargaining team and with the support of our membership, the NPMHU can achieve a 2016 National Agreement for mail handlers that will include important improvements in the current terms and conditions of our employment.
I look forward to facing the challenges that lie ahead. Throughout my union career, I have always given my best effort to ensure that all mail handlers have the high caliber representation that they richly deserve. Although the arena in Washington, DC is slightly different, my goals remain the same: to provide the best possible representation for all mail handlers, whenever and wherever that representation is needed, whether at the bargaining table, in the arbitration hearing room, or on Capitol Hill. The NPMHU will continue to work with the other Postal Unions where we can. Moreover, we will continue to work with associations and community groups if it can further our causes. We will build alliances where mutual goals serve the best interests of the NPMHU, and we will continue to remain active in the legislative and political forum. My promise to all mail handlers is to work hard and to work fair, so that mail handlers can continue to be proud of the accomplishments of their Union.
Thank you for your kind wishes, and for your continued support.
Yours in Union Solidarity,
Paul V. Hogrogian
National President
