It is with great sorrow that the National Union memorializes the passing of retired Mail Handler and past Local 305 officer Kenneth Hayes. Kenny was born in Charleston, WV on May 21, 1954. Kenny passed away December 23, 2015 at his home following a long illness. He proudly served his country and was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Kenny entered the Postal Service as a Mail Handler in 1977 at the Charleston WV P&DC. Brother Hayes was a staunch defender of worker’s rights, representing postal Mail Handlers working in Maryland, the District of Columbia, Virginia, North Carolina and parts of West Virginia in various roles since 1979. Kenny served as a shop steward, Branch President and State Executive Board Member for West Virginia, a position he held for twenty-one years.
Kenny enthusiastically took on additional duties serving the Union as Contract Administrator, Arbitration Advocate, RI-399 Swat Team member and as RDRC rep for the Eastern Area. Kenny’s career with the NPMHU culminated in 2007 when acquiring the position of Local 305 President, a position he held for 5 years. The NPMHU extends our deepest sympathy to family and friends.
