USPS Announces Potential Changes to Mail Processing Network and Impact on Employees
(February 22, 2012) In a series of service talks, commencing today at 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time, the Postal Service is informing mail handlers and other postal employees of their ongoing plans to downsize the mail processing network, and also to downsize the employee complement. The Postal Service also is showing a video of PMG Pat Donahoe explaining the need for these changes.
Some facilities may be targeted for closure (if changes to the service standards are implemented), and other facilities may be gaining work. All of these actions are subject to the collective bargaining agreement, and could be changed by intervening legislative developments.
As part of our discussions with Postal Headquarters, we have discussed possible incentives for downsizing. No agreement has been reached as yet, and, if an agreement is reached on incentives, we will publicize it immediately.
We will continue to update this site as new developments occur.
